Let’s Get Something Straight Here

The MSM is all atwitter this morning over Robert Plant. His collaboration with Alison Krauss, Raising Sand (Produced by T Bone Burnett), won five Grammy awards, that’s right, FIVE.

If it were not for Alison Krauss and T Bone Burnett a similar collaboration, say with Robert Plant, Britney Spears, and will.i.am, would have sold three albums and not even been nominated for a Grammy.

Raising Sand won five Grammys despite Plant. T Bone Burnett also produced the soundtrack album for “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”, which, o by the way, prominently features, guess who, Alison Krauss. Just a reminder, that album won FIVE Grammys too.

Alison Krauss has already won 18,000 Grammys and she’s only twelve years old.

One song that she was nominated for, but did not win a Grammy, is “Simple Love”. Here’s that:

I Still Pray – Kasey Chambers

Friday, December 19th, 2008

I still cry for baby Jesus

And I still pray when I'm alone

And when I'm lost He'll come to find me

Because He died to save my soul

When I can't walk He's there to carry

When I speak He hears my words

When I wake and I have nothing

He sends me gold, frankincense and myrrh

I still cry for baby Jesus

And I still pray when I'm alone

And when I'm lost He'll come to find me

Because He died to save my soul

When I cry my tears of sorrow

When my heart will only ache

And if I'm troubled when I'm sleeping

He will hold me until I wake

I still cry for baby Jesus

And I still pray when I'm alone

And when I'm lost He'll come to find me

Because He died to save my soul

Because He died to save my soul

Because He died to save my soul

(Because there is, after all, a reason for the season)

AKUS & SHH111

We suspect that you have heard of Alison Krauss. Between her and Union Station and her more than 800,000 collaborations, she has won 9,472,484 awards. Including enough Grammy Awards to require a 1,200 square foot trophy case to hold them all. She has two Grammy nominations for this year, but she will probably win thirty or forty, even in categories she isn’t nominated in.

But, you might not be familiar with Sierra Hull. We share with Sierra a great admiration for Alison Krauss. Sierra is now part of Sierra Hull and Highway 111. Here is Sierra on stage with AKUS doing “Cluck Old Hen”.
